Family Enters the Temple Gates Singingby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 100:4

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

Entering God's gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise means coming into His presence with gratitude, thanking Him and blessing His name. This thankful approach is the way to enter before Him, giving thanks and speaking blessing upon His name rather than coming empty or self-occupied. It is simple, direct instruction for how to seek the Lord.

This grateful entry belongs together with serving the Lord with gladness and acknowledging Him as God. The call is due because He made His people and they are His, the sheep of His pasture under His care as Maker and Shepherd.

The worship rests on who the Lord is: He is good, His mercy lasts forever, and His truth and faithfulness endure through every generation. As His creation, people are therefore to honor and glorify Him through such worship rather than exalt themselves.

The verse gives this same simple instruction to families as they seek the Lord, to enter His presence with thanksgiving and praise. Thankful praise and blessing His name as the way to enter His presence shows God's commandments, including the Sabbath, to be blessings given for people's good. In this way worship of God as Creator is joined with the joy of His people.
