Psalms 102:28

The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before thee.

The children of God's servants will continue, and their seed will remain established before him in his presence. That continuance rests on God's unending years and his constancy, even as creation grows old and changes. The present world changes, decays and wears out, while he remains unchanged and eternal.

The verse belongs among the psalms of the Hebrew captives' sorrows and afflictions, giving encouragement and assurance of divine help and of final deliverance from persecutors. It is tied to the future rebuilding of Zion and Jerusalem, when the Lord appears in glory, Zion receives mercy and is built up, and Jerusalem becomes a secure and enduring dwelling where the people live. The promise applies to the new earth, where its inhabitants will have eternal life and righteousness will dwell.

The verse is among the texts showing that Christ is central to Scripture. In its context of Psalm 102:22-28, it is evidence that the name Jehovah belongs to the Son as well as the Father. Closing Psalm 102:12-28, it joins the continuance and establishment of God's servants and their seed before him to God's enduring remembrance and memorial in creation and the Sabbath, fitting for chanting in Sabbath worship immediately after preaching on God's memorial. It is a promise each person may make his own.
