Psalms 104:2

Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:

The verse portrays God as very great, clothed with honor and majesty, covering Himself with light as with a garment and stretching out the heavens like a curtain. The light covering Him is visible light and glory emanating from Him, which could be seen even though the excellency of His form could not be seen or beheld. When that light and glory rises from the throne, it shows that the Father has risen.

The light and the heavens are works of God's creative power, and the image of the heavens spread like a curtain expresses that power. That same power is shown in laying the foundations of the earth, laying the beams of His chambers in the waters, making the clouds His chariot, and walking upon the wings of the wind. The image of being clothed with light is reflected in holy Adam and Eve's original state, in which God gave them glory as a garment. While they obeyed they were covered and draped with a circle of light and glory like the angels, which was their divine covering.

After Adam sinned by transgression in eating the forbidden fruit, that light and glory departed and disappeared because God's glory could not cover disobedience. Adam and Eve felt exposed, guilty and naked and sought a covering. With the loss of that glory came poverty, sickness, and suffering for Adam's children.

The verse is a song of praise for hearts tuned to offer praise and thanksgiving to God. Its light and beams are the healing beams of the Redeemer's glory going forth from Christ to give life and peace and to take away infirmities. They cause faith that touches infinity to spring up in the heart, and shine forth from the inner glory of God in the soul in word, looks, and prayers to save souls that are ready to perish.
