Psalms 104:20

Thou makest darkness, and it is night: wherein all the beasts of the forest do creep forth.

God himself makes darkness and brings night, and in that night all the beasts of the forest come forth. The stretched-out shadows of evening are His direct and continual work under His all-wise direction. The steady course of day and night does not run by necessity but by the constant working of omnipotent power. He alone makes the dayspring know its boundaries and commands the sun to shine by day and the moon by night.

The beasts seek their food from Him, then withdraw to their dens when the sun rises while people go out to their work, showing that His creatures depend on His providential care. The needs of the forest animals for food and care are met through His continual providence, not through any independent power in nature. The same hand of the Lord also prepares a place for rain and a way for lightning and thunder to make herbs grow on the earth.
