The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from God.
The young lions roar while they are hunting after their prey. Even the young lions and the beasts of the forest depend on God for food and seek their meat from Him. That dependence means every living creature, from the smallest insect up to man, is daily dependent on His providential care, which sustains them all.
Although the work of creation is completed, His energy is still exerted in upholding the objects of His creation. Nature is the servant of its Creator, and He does not annul His laws or work contrary to them but continually uses them as His instruments. Life and fruitfulness do not continue by any inherent power or vital energy in matter itself, but by the continual working of the Father and the Son in and through nature's laws to give breath and heartbeat, yearly harvests and vegetation, and food for wild animals.
God cares for the wild beasts and gives them their meat when they seek it from Him. That same care means He will impress minds in every place to devise ways to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and teach the ignorant, giving wisdom and skill, talent and ingenuity to manufacture necessary, wholesome foods to be sold to the poor as cheaply as possible, a work needed in the Southern states more than in any other part of America.
