Psalms 104:24

O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.

O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches — this is praise for the manifold number of His works, the declaration that He made them all in wisdom, and the declaration that the earth is full of His riches and abundant gifts. Its immediate setting illustrates that wisdom and abundance in springs and plants and food and other provisions that sustain people and animals, showing that all creatures depend on God to supply their needs. The many forms of life and the abundance and variety of the provisions that sustain them display His wise care.

The varied forms of rocks and gorges and streams and forested mountains reveal the beauty and grandeur of creation and display God as Maker. The grandeur and variety and beauty of mountains and rocks and forests and streams display His wisdom and creative power and invite reverence for Him as Maker and gratitude for the earth's riches. The beauty and abundance of the earth reveal His glory and reveal Him as infinite in power and great in goodness and mercy and love, who created the earth and filled it with life and gladness. They reveal His tender fatherly care for His children and His desire to make them happy, and nature's ten thousand voices speak His praise.

That witness is seen in earth and sea and sky with marvelous tint and color, in the everlasting hills telling of power, in trees and flowers pointing to their Creator, and in living green showing care for the humblest creatures. It is seen further in caves of the sea and depths of the earth revealing treasures, in pearls and precious stones showing love of the beautiful, in the rising sun representing the life and light of all He has made, and in all brightness and beauty adorning earth and lighting heaven. Although sin has marred earth's beauty and left traces of evil, much that is beautiful remains and reveals the handiwork of the great Master Artist, set against the brier and thorn and thistle and tare that represent the evil that blights and mars.

Nature's abundance and variety serve as symbols that teach spiritual truths, speaking of His goodness and restoring love in ten thousand objects such as the singing bird and opening blossom, rain and sunshine, summer breeze and gentle dew, and from the oak of the forest to the violet at its root. The fullness of the earth with good things displays His message of thoughts of peace and not of evil, which is read upon all the face of nature only in the light of the cross where good conquers evil and every blessing comes as a gift of redemption.
