Pharaoh Gives Joseph His Signet Ringby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 105:21

He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance:

He made Joseph, brought from prison when his imprisonment and affliction ended, lord and master over the royal household and ruler over all his possessions, substance, and the affairs of Egypt. At that time Egypt was the greatest of the nations in civilization, art, and learning. The position placed him over the kingdom in a period of utmost difficulty and danger, with heavy responsibility in an idolatrous nation, and he administered it so as to win the confidence of the king and the people.

In that prosperity his integrity, fidelity to God, and faithfulness to his trust remained unchanged from what they had been in adversity. By his wisdom and justice his rule benefited Egypt, and by his life and character he displayed the knowledge of God there. He thus led Egypt's king and leaders to notice the true God and respect the principles of a worshiper of Jehovah, representing God to Egypt and to other nations.

Standing with Psalms 106 and 107, the verse belongs to the record of God's dealings that teaches his children the necessity of appreciating his goodness, mercy, and love. It is to be taken into personal experience to increase and not diminish faith. This means holding to God as strength and front guard and rearward, trusting not in man or the arm of flesh, thanking him for his Word as a stronghold, thanking him for his goodness and enduring mercy, and praising him for his wonderful works to the children of men. It means looking on the bright side, singing praise with a fixed heart, speaking faith and courage, and refusing discouragement in perplexities and trials.
