Pharaoh Gives Joseph His Signet Ringby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 105:22

To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom.

Psalm 105:22 describes Joseph after his release from prison, when Pharaoh freed him and made him ruler over his household, his possessions, and the land, with authority over the king's princes, officials and elders to govern and direct them at his discretion and to teach wisdom to the rulers. This meant Joseph administered the affairs of the kingdom, controlling the princes and instructing the elders in wisdom.

That work took place in Egypt when it was the greatest of nations, unequaled in civilization, art, and learning. It was yet an idolatrous nation, and Joseph entered it after much affliction to bear a heavy burden in the exact line God had chosen for him, through a period of utmost difficulty and danger.

His elevation came from both sides, for Pharaoh gave him authority over the princes and elders, while God chose him and gave him wisdom and authority for the task. God gave Joseph wisdom to direct Pharaoh's princes and to teach the kingdom's leaders.

Joseph administered the kingdom in a manner that won the confidence of the king and the people. Raised from prison to rule the land, he remained faithful to God in prosperity as he had been in adversity, and he did not betray that sacred trust. His God-given wisdom, justice, purity, kindness, and service to the people marked his rule.

Through his life he became a representative of Christ. The knowledge of God shone forth in the kingdom of Egypt through him, the king and Egypt's great men were led to respect the principles of the true God, and Egypt and other nations could see their Creator's love.

The verse belongs to the account of Israel's experience, which contains warnings that God's people in the last days need to study.
