Psalms 105:9

Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac;

The covenant made with Abraham includes the oath to Isaac, kept through the promise to give Canaan to Abraham's descendants as their inheritance and confirmed to Jacob as an enduring covenant with Israel. That promise remained in force while Abraham's family was few in number and living as sojourners, and God protected them from harm as they moved among other nations. The covenant dealing with Abraham and Isaac reveals God's goodness, mercy, and love. The covenant promise is God's word to be taken at His word without distrust and appropriated to individual experience so that faith increases rather than diminishes. Thanking the Lord for His word makes it a stronghold for holding to the One who promised to be strength and help, with all heaven pledged to work for help and strengthening against discouragement, perplexity, clouds, and trials.

The verse stands in the record of Israel's experience under the cloud and through the sea, baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea, eating the same spiritual meat and drinking the same spiritual drink from the spiritual Rock that followed them, which was Christ, yet with many of them God was not well pleased and they were overthrown in the wilderness. That history holds lessons of warning that God's people in the last days especially need to study. Psalms 105 and 106 should be read at least once every week. The verse should be read carefully with Psalm 106 and Psalm 107 by all who claim to be God's children to learn the necessity of appreciating God's goodness, mercy, and love. God made an oath to Isaac by swearing by Himself, so solemnly calling God to witness that what is said is truth is no violation of God's word and proves that testifying under oath is lawful and right. When matters of importance must be decided by law, the Christian who lives in the light of God's countenance and grows strong in His strength can consistently testify under oath and appeal to God, and above all others can do so well.
