Psalms 106:18

And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.

The fire breaking out in the company and consuming them was God's judgment upon the wicked among Israel who rose in rebellion against Moses and Aaron. That event stands as part of the recorded experience of Israel in the wilderness. The record holds lessons of warning for God's people living in the last days. Those warning lessons need to be studied.

With Psalms 105 and 107, Psalm 106 teaches the necessity of appreciating the goodness and mercy and love of God. Psalm 106 itself belongs among five psalms, Psalms 103, 104, 105, 106, and 107, repeated by a large company that keeps increasing until it becomes a multitude. This repeating prepares them to pass one by one through a very narrow gate where no one can carry even the lightest burden. Those unwilling to relinquish their idols are left behind.
