Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea.
The verse looks back to marvelous deeds done in Egypt, the land of Ham, and to fearful, awe-inspiring deeds of judgment and deliverance beside the Red Sea. Those deeds were a display of divine power exercised for Israel as Savior. Though Israel had seen them with their own eyes, the people soon forgot God who had made and redeemed them and forgot what He had done. That forgetting turned into rebellion and idolatry and into putting God to the test.
Their forgetfulness stirred divine wrath to the point of threatening to destroy them, and Moses stood in the breach before God to turn that wrath away. The verse stands within the record of Israel's history and experience, given to be studied, and studied regularly, in order to appreciate God's goodness and mercy and love. That history carries lessons of warning and stands as a warning example for God's people, especially for those living in the last days.
