Psalms 107:39

Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.

After a time of being increased and blessed, the people are lessened in number and brought down into lowliness. That bringing low is accomplished by means of harsh oppression, affliction, and sorrow. It stands within a wider divine working in which rulers are poured contempt upon and caused to wander in a wilderness where there is no way, while at the same time the needy are lifted out of affliction and made into families like a flock. That deliverance brings gladness to the righteous and stops the mouth of all iniquity.
