Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, and maketh him families like a flock.
The lifting up of the afflicted does not stand alone, but comes after a season when the people have been made few and brought low through oppression and trouble and sorrow, and after contempt has been poured out upon princes. Out of that low condition God raises the poor and needy from affliction and sets them in a secure place on high, beyond the reach of harm. There He greatly increases them, giving them households and descendants until they are multiplied and numerous like a flock.
When the upright behold this reversal of the proud and the poor, they rejoice and are glad, while every mouth of iniquity is stopped and silenced. Such deliverance is to be reckoned among the loving-kindnesses of Jehovah, which the wise observe, mark, and thoughtfully consider.
