David Looks Toward Edom at Dawnby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 108:13

Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.

When trouble comes, help from human sources is futile and cannot bring deliverance. Valiant doing and prevailing come through God alone by making Him the dependence, with Jesus taken as wisdom and strength and righteousness, because God Himself will tread down enemies. The fitting response is humble, fervent prayer and trust in God while wrongs are repaired and disagreements are worked through.

Living this out means daily life in close connection with the perfect, faultless character of Jesus held as the pattern for what to be. That pattern is strict obedience to His Father's law joined with movement in perfect freedom, fervency joined with calmness, soberness and self-possession, and elevation above the world joined with a social and sympathetic spirit. It combines childlike innocence and simplicity with manly strength, all-absorbing devotion to God with tender love for people, commanding dignity with humble grace, and unyielding firmness with sweet gentleness.
