Psalms 109:19

Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.

Psalm 109:19 belongs to a psalm that predicts God's retributive wrath upon evildoers. It is predictive of tribulation against the enemies of God's church rather than an expression of personal revenge, and its curses declare God's retributive justice. The verse is not David asking God to curse his enemies, but God pronouncing just punishment on wicked people who sought to bring such punishments on others.

It belongs to a plea for divine justice that those who plot wickedness against the innocent should receive the consequences of their own wrongdoing. The psalm refers to Christ and sometimes presents him as the speaker. The garment and girdle image means the curse clings to a person like clothing that covers him and stays fastened around him like a belt continually. The curses of the psalm are difficult to reconcile with Jesus' teaching in the Sermon on the Mount.
