Psalms 109:29

Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle.

The verse is David's prayer asking God to clothe his adversaries with shame and to make them cover themselves with their own confusion as visibly and completely as a mantle covers its wearer. The imprecation is predictive rather than a call for personal revenge, belonging to a psalm that foretells tribulation and God's retributive wrath and justice upon evildoers and the enemies of the church. The curses are words of divine justice in which God declares that shame and confusion will cover the wicked adversaries who deserve punishment. Those who sought to bring punishment upon others will themselves face that punishment. It is a plea for divine justice that those who plot wickedness against the innocent should receive the consequences of their own wrongdoing.
