For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.
Psalm 109:4 is a prophecy of Christ in His ministry to Israel. In return for His love and good, those He came to serve and save became His adversaries and rejected Him. Particularly the priests and rulers compassed Him about with words of hatred, spoke against Him with a lying tongue, and fought against Him without a cause. They rewarded Him evil for good and hatred for His love.
In the face of this opposition He gave Himself for them, seeking to soften and save them. They separated themselves from God in proud self-righteousness. Their opposition grew until it led to plans to crucify Him.
