Psalms 109:5

And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

The verse describes Christ's own experience of being repaid with evil for the good He did and with hatred for His love. It was fulfilled by His enemies in Israel, specifically the priests and rulers. Their hatred showed itself in opposing His work and bringing accusations against Him, even though He had come seeking to save and help them. It showed itself also in hearts that resisted His kindness and rejected His pleadings and counsel. Even while being thus rejected, He continued His merciful ministry of healing the sick, helping the suffering, and calling people to receive life. He answered that hatred with blessing instead of returning evil, thereby living out His own teaching to love enemies.
