Psalms 116:4

Then called I upon the name of the LORD; O LORD, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.

On the night before His betrayal and death Jesus sang these words as part of a song. The cry is a plea for the Lord to rescue the speaker's life when surrounded by the sorrows and distress of death. It calls upon the divine name with urgent entreaty for deliverance of the soul. At the same time it rests on confidence that the Lord hears prayer. That confidence beholds Him as gracious and righteous and merciful.
