Psalms 116:8

For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.

The verse voices grateful trust in God as the one who has rescued the soul from death, taken tears away from the eyes, and held the feet so they do not stumble. It is thanksgiving for deliverance already received, turned into confidence for what lies ahead. These very words were sung by Jesus on the night before He was betrayed and put to death. He joined in them as a song of assured confidence in His Father's care even while suffering and death were approaching.
