Psalms 119:103

How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

God's words are deeply pleasing, delightful and precious, sweet to the taste and sweeter than honey to the mouth. The psalm to which the verse belongs exalts God's law, presenting God's Word as the rule for life and the source of clear principles distinguishing right from wrong and truth from error. That delight follows sincere prayer for God to open the eyes to the wonders of His law and discovering the truth of Scripture. God hears and answers such prayer, filling the heart with gladness and rejoicing.

Meditating on and keeping God's words gives wisdom and spiritual understanding, making one wiser than enemies, with more understanding than teachers and ancients, and lighting the path. That delight and understanding belong with keeping His commands and precepts, refraining the feet from every evil way in order to keep His word, and not departing from His judgments because God has taught. They belong with turning from evil and falsehood and hating every false way. Its received truths enter the understanding and heart and transform the character when people obey them and live by what God has spoken.

This delight is known by experience in an upright life fixed on the Saviour, becoming the believer's experience through unreserved surrender to God and separation from what mars the character. It is sung by the commandment-keeping people seen in the last days who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, meditating in the law all day. Their love for God's law grows more decided and increases with the contempt placed upon it.
