Be surety for thy servant for good: let not the proud oppress me.
Psalm 119:122 stands within a psalm that magnifies divine law. There His testimonies and Word are presented as delight and counsel, as the way of truth, and as a lamp guiding the course of life. That law is the rule by which right and wrong, truth and error, are distinguished.
The verse shows that the wickedness of the world has reached the point where the Lord will certainly intervene and arise to punish bold and defiant wickedness against His holy law. His forbearance has been very great, so great as to cause marvel in view of the continual insult to His holy commandments, and His long-suffering is remarkable because He restrains His own attributes, exerting His omnipotence over Himself. He has long endured the continual increase of defiance against the laws given to govern the human beings He created, while giving continual light to those who remain obedient. He sees that life is becoming intolerable because of cruelty, because men have changed His laws.
