Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.
All God's precepts concerning all things are esteemed to be right, and every false way is hated. Those who earnestly seek truth recognize every divine precept about every matter as right and reject every false and deceptive path. God's law is the guide for life, given to govern human beings, defining the principles of righteousness and making clear the difference between right and wrong and between truth and error. David learned this by experience, seeing that disregard for God's law brought misery while obedience brought peace and happiness to people and their families, so he valued the law more highly and would not join those who transgressed it.
When others cast the law aside and rebellion spreads, reverence deepens rather than weakening. God's commandments are valued above gold and fine gold, and widespread apostasy does not turn the faithful from them. When God's law is despised and made void amid increasing obstinacy, rebellion, scorn, contempt, and opposition, it is time for the Lord to work. Instead of being swept away by prevailing apostasy or cowardly refraining from vindicating the law, love and reverence for the law increase with the contempt placed upon it and are declared more decidedly, as shown by those who earnestly seek truth.
This esteem comes from studying and contemplating the precious statutes of the Most High, meditating on them and realizing their value. It is joined to keeping His wonderful testimonies, with the entrance of His word giving light and understanding to the simple, meaning those who do not exalt their own understanding to improve Scripture beyond its present simplicity. In the last days when God's law is despised and made void, God's commandment-keeping people make this loyalty their song. Their love for the law grows stronger with the contempt placed upon it, and they declare more decidedly that every precept concerning everything is right and that every false way is to be hated, and with these words they proclaim the third angel's message with heart and voice.
In connection with the sacredness of God's law and the certainty that God will intervene against wickedness, the verse stands against the world's defiance of His holy commandments. In this setting it supports the warning that persistent rejection of God's law and truth will meet judgment.
