Psalms 119:133

Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

The verse is a prayer asking God to direct a person's steps and conduct by His word and to keep any iniquity or sin from having dominion or ruling over them. God's law is the rule of life, setting out the principles of righteousness and clearly distinguishing right from wrong and truth from error. A person's course is to be ordered by that word, for careless, unweighed judgments can make the course uneven and uncertain, lead others astray, and bring loss, so steps must be guarded and earnest prayer made to avoid mistakes.

The verse is the song and prayer of the commandment-keeping people in the last days, when God's law is despised, frowned upon, and made void. Their fidelity and loyalty to the laws of God's kingdom grow with the emergency, so that contempt placed upon the law only leads them to reveal their love for it more decidedly. They value God's commandments above gold, esteem all His precepts concerning all things to be right, hate every false way, long for His commandments, and seek mercy as those who love His name.

In connection with this prayer they also ask for deliverance from the oppression of man so they will keep His precepts, for His face to shine upon them and for Him to teach them His statutes, while rivers of waters run down their eyes because others keep not His law, and thus they proclaim the third angel's message with heart and voice. The verse also shows that the bold and defiant wickedness of the world against God's holy law, changed by men, will certainly cause the Lord to arise to interfere and punish it. His long forbearance in bearing with continual insult to His holy commandments is very great and marvelous, putting constraint upon His own attributes as omnipotence exerted over Himself, while He gives continual light to those who remain obedient even as life becomes intolerable through cruelty.
