Woman Rejoicing in the Word in a Gardenby CBPepper

Psalms 119:14

I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches.

Rejoicing in the way of God's testimonies means living by His revealed instruction and valuing it as highly as all material riches. God's Word is a treasure of truth to be taught and treasured. The psalm exalts God's law as the sacred rule of life, presenting His Word as teaching righteousness and distinguishing right from wrong and truth from error. It points out the sacredness of God's law.

Rejoicing in the way of God's testimonies as much as in all riches belongs to the blessed, undefiled life of walking in the law of the Lord, which includes keeping His testimonies, seeking Him with the whole heart, doing no iniquity, keeping His precepts diligently, having respect to all His commandments, praising Him with uprightness of heart, learning His righteous judgments, hiding His word in the heart in order not to sin, and declaring all the judgments of His mouth. That same life meditates in His precepts, has respect to His ways, delights in His statutes, and does not forget His word. Young men and women should study these words and cultivate a spirit that desires to heed the way of the Lord.

Jesus used this joy in God's word to explain why He did not join the young people of Nazareth in their frolics. The verse encourages young people to heed the way of the Lord, choosing meditation on His precepts and respect for His ways over the games and sports of other youth. The psalm is to be read with solemn earnestness before a large assembly. There its witness to God's law stands joined to the declaration that the wickedness of the world has reached the point where the Lord will certainly interfere and will not at all acquit the wicked.
