Psalms 119:147

I prevented the dawning of the morning, and cried: I hoped in thy word.

The setting of the verse is a psalm that exalts divine law as supreme and binding. That larger psalm presents the Word as guide and counsellor for daily conduct. The hope expressed in the verse is therefore hope placed directly in that guiding Word. It belongs to a life ordered and directed by revealed principles rather than by human inclination.
