Psalms 119:44

So shall I keep thy law continually for ever and ever.

Psalm 119:44 belongs to a psalm that exalts God's law as the rule of life, and study of His Word lays open the principles of righteousness and marks the line between right and wrong and between truth and error. To keep His law continually for ever and ever is the language, experience, and resolve of every truly obedient and sanctified child of God who delights in and loves the commandments. As David loved the law and inclined his heart to perform God's statutes always, even to the end, so the obedient heart resolves to keep it continually, even forever.

This continual keeping means hoping in God's judgments and keeping the word of truth in the mouth, seeking His precepts and walking at liberty. It means delighting in His commandments and loving them, speaking His testimonies before kings without shame, lifting up the hands to His commandments, and meditating in His statutes with the whole heart. It is the outcome of receiving God's mercies and salvation according to His word, trusting in His word, hoping in His judgments, and having the word of truth remain in the mouth to give answer to him that reproaches. It is lived out by walking in the law of the Lord, keeping His testimonies, seeking Him with the whole heart, and doing no iniquity. It is lived out by keeping His precepts diligently, having respect to all His commandments, cleansing the way by taking heed according to His word, clinging to His testimonies, running the way of His commandments with an enlarged heart, understanding and observing His law with the whole heart, and delighting in the path of His commandments.

This continual keeping proves true sanctification and stands opposite to pouring bitterness against the law of Jehovah. Such bitterness follows the leadership of Satan, who first brought sin into the world, drew angels into apostasy by misrepresenting the law, and now holds the world and much of the professed church in enmity with the law. Numbers on Satan's side do not turn truth into error, and sin remains transgression of the law of God.

Keeping God's law continually for ever and ever is the happy, voiced song and declaration of faith of the commandment-keeping people seen in Revelation 14 in the last days. Their fidelity and loyalty to the laws of God's kingdom grow with the emergency, so that contempt placed upon the law only makes them reveal their love for it more decidedly. As their response to reproach and contempt they trust His word, hope in His judgments, walk at liberty by seeking His precepts, speak His testimonies before kings without shame, delight in and love His commandments, and meditate in His statutes, by which all can proclaim the third angel's message with heart and voice.
