A Bible With Words on Law and Lawlessnessby KandD

Psalms 119:45

And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.

Seeking God's precepts leads to walking in liberty and freedom of life. God's law itself is liberty rather than bondage, a grievous yoke or shackles, and keeping it continually forever brings that freedom. True freedom is preserved because obedience points out and forbids what degrades and enslaves, protecting from the power of evil, while transgression itself brings bondage. This liberty belongs to hearts in harmony with God's will that delight in, love and meditate on His commandments, and those who strive to fulfill them through faith in the Redeemer are covered with His righteousness, freed from the curse and at peace with God.

Liberty Through Obedience

Seeking God's precepts brings walking at liberty and freedom in life. His law itself is liberty, not bondage, not a grievous yoke, not hard slavery, and not shackles. Obedience preserves true freedom by pointing out and forbidding what degrades and enslaves, thereby protecting the obedient from the power of evil. The law exalted here is to guide life and to define the difference between right and wrong and between truth and error.

Bondage comes from transgression, so the transgressor is in bondage while the keeper of the law walks at liberty. People walk in freedom when their wills are in harmony with God's will and they love His commandments, and in Christ they are not under the bondage of the law. Those who strive to fulfill God's precepts through faith in the Redeemer are covered with His righteousness, freed from the curse of the law, and at peace with God.

This liberty is the language and experience of every truly obedient and sanctified heart that delights in, loves, and meditates on the commandments. It is part of the experience gained through knowing and receiving God's word, giving freedom in life to the obedient child of God. The liberty comes by keeping His law continually forever and ever. Obedience to God's commandments is nothing to be ashamed of, for God withholds nothing that is for our good, while disobedience to His precepts is what should bring shame.

Faithfulness Amid Opposition

Prophets and apostles regarded the holy law as liberty, not bondage or a grievous yoke, contrary to the claim that Christ abolished the law and that gospel liberty stands in contrast to bondage under the law. Bitterness and enmity against the law follows the leadership of Satan, who by misrepresenting God's law led angels into apostasy and rebellion and now leads the world and much of the professed church into enmity against the law. Numbers on his side do not make truth into error, for sin remains the transgression of God's law and doing righteousness by obedience distinguishes the children of God from the children of the devil.

In the last days when contempt is placed upon God's law, the commandment-keeping people seen in Revelation 14 sing the declaration of walking at liberty by seeking His precepts as the declaration of their faith with happy voices. Their fidelity and loyalty to the laws of His kingdom grow with the emergency, so that contempt placed upon the law only makes their love for it more decided and increased. That liberty includes boldness to speak His testimonies before kings without shame, with delight and love for His commandments, lifting up the hands to them and meditating in His statutes, so that all can proclaim the third angel's message with heart and voice.
