Psalms 119:58

I intreated thy favour with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word.

The entreaty is a plea for favor offered with the whole heart, seeking mercy and gracious kindness from God. That request for mercy is not made on personal merit but is grounded expressly upon what God has spoken in His word. In David's testimony this prayer stands joined to keeping God's words, to turning the feet away from wrong courses toward His testimonies, and to making haste without delay to obey His commandments.

The psalm in which this prayer occurs is a psalm that magnifies and exalts God's law. It sets forth the sacredness of that law. It also points to the certainty that God will interpose when the wickedness of the world has reached its full limit.
