Psalms 12:2

They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.

Psalm 12:2 describes people speaking what is false and empty to one another, neighbor to neighbor in vanity rather than truth. Their speech is with flattering lips and from a double heart, meaning a heart that is divided, insincere and deceitful. This deceptive speech stands in contrast to faithfulness and the faithful failing from among men, and the Lord will cut off the flattering lips and the boastful tongues that exalt themselves.

False statements made in such deceitful speech are recorded. Misrepresentations are likewise recorded and preserved. In the judgment the true character of those who spoke them will be revealed.
