The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:
The Lord will cut off all flattering lips and the tongue that speaks proud things, putting an end to such speech. The flattering lips condemned are deceitful, lying speech, including false statements and misrepresentation of others, as well as slander and falsehood. The tongue that speaks proud things is proud speech uttered in defiance of God's authority.
Words of this kind are witnessed and recorded, and will be exposed in their true character at the judgment. Those who spread slander and falsehood with lying tongues will face divine judgment, and their lying tongues will not continue unchecked.
