Psalms 122:3

Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together:

The description of Jerusalem as a closely united city belongs to the grand glad psalms chanted by bands of Israelite pilgrims going up to Jerusalem for the annual feasts. It was sung by the children of Israel as they went up to those feasts. They sang it while journeying in growing companies toward the place where God's presence was revealed, with joy in heart and gratitude to the Giver of all good. Trumpet and cymbals accompanied them, and hundreds of voices swelled the chorus of thanksgiving.

The singing celebrated standing within Jerusalem's gates. There the tribes of the Lord go up to give thanks to the name of Jehovah. It also joined in prayer for the peace of Jerusalem.
