Psalms 122:5

For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David.

Psalm 122 belongs to the Psalms of Ascent sung by pilgrims as they drew near to Jerusalem, and its setting is joyful worship with the holy city and the temple in view. It teaches delight in God's house as the place set apart for worship where God meets with His people. Those who recognize their need of Him find joy in gathering there together.

Jerusalem is presented as the established seat of judgment where the thrones of the house of David stand, which makes the city a center of judicial authority under David's royal house. Those thrones include the king's throne in the judgment hall of Solomon's palace. That hall stood on the palace terrace below the temple.
