Woman Asleep Dreaming of Jerusalem at NightBible World
122:7Psalms 122:7
Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.
The line is a pilgrim wish and prayer for peace to dwell inside Jerusalem's walls and for prosperity and welfare to dwell inside its palaces. It was sung as Jerusalem came into view on the journey to keep the Passover. It was sung by worshipers looking toward the holy city as they went up to the temple for the Feast of Tabernacles.
It was sung with reverential awe by pilgrim bands standing on the surrounding hills in sight of the holy city. From there they could see the smoke of incense ascending and hear the Levites' trumpets heralding the break of day. They sang it as they joined the living mass winding its way to the temple where God dwelt between the cherubim.
