Psalms 124:3

Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:

Psalm 124:1-5 sets forth the peril of being overwhelmed by hostile forces, declaring that had the Lord not stood on His people's side their enemies would have swallowed them up. The danger is from adversaries whose anger is aroused, and without divine intervention destruction would have been certain. To be swallowed up quick portrays a sudden and complete ruin overtaking God's people when wrath is kindled against them.

The same deliverance is seen in the Lord's preserving care through seasons of darkness. Times of financial struggle and low winter patronage bring gloom and pressure upon the workers, yet they are not left to perish. The Lord preserves the sanitarium through such straits and directs its work forward.
