Psalms 128:6

Yea, thou shalt see thy children’s children, and peace upon Israel.

Psalm 128 is one of the Psalms of Ascent sung by worshipers as they approached Jerusalem, and chanting these songs with the holy city and temple in sight stirred their hearts toward true worship. It belongs with a group of psalms connected with the return from captivity in Babylon under Cyrus, a time marked by joy, sorrow, and anxiety. That same setting includes the building and dedication of the second temple.

To see children's children is the blessing of living to see later generations, even to become a great-great-grandmother and to behold God's blessing resting on children and their descendants. The verse pictures God's people as belonging to families, not only through natural ties but through the grace of Jesus Christ.

The peace upon Israel points to the final peace when Jesus is King over all the earth and all nations serve and obey Him, and then peace will rest upon Israel forevermore. That peace upon Israel is a blessing given by the Lord God and Father, to be desired and prayed for among His people together with love and godly fear. It is kept in watching and praying.
