Psalms 129:5

Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion.

Psalm 129:5 belongs to the Psalms of Ascent, also called the Psalms of Degrees. These psalms were chanted by pilgrims as they approached Jerusalem and its temple, stirring the devout to worship. They were chanted on the fifteen steps leading up to the temple's inner court.

Psalm 129 belongs to a group associated with the Jews returning after the Babylonian captivity. Their songs express joy, sorrow, and anxiety. They refer to the rebuilding and dedication of the second temple and its accompanying triumphs.
