Psalms 13:2
How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?
The cry of taking counsel in the soul with daily sorrow in the heart voices the anguish of one who feels forsaken and crushed under the triumph of an enemy. That inward distress can deepen when the adversary presses accusations of unworthiness and hopelessness upon the mind, even while the body is weakened by sickness. Feeling thus does not mean abandonment by God, for His loving-kindness still surrounds the sufferer, He looks with pity upon the afflicted one, and His purpose remains to save.
