Psalms 130:7

Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.

Let Israel hope in the Lord. The call to hope rests on the fact that mercy is with the Lord and that plenteous redemption is with Him. The next verse explains that redemption by stating that He redeems Israel from all its iniquities. The verse therefore grounds the hope of the church in God's forgiveness and redeeming help.

The hope it calls for is joined with watching earnestly for the Lord and trusting in Him. His mercy is the basis for freely pardoning sin, offered to every person who cannot save himself. That pardon comes through Christ, who gave His life for sinners and offers pardon secured by His sacrifice and purchased by His blood. Because such love and compassion have been received, those who are forgiven should show compassion and love to fellow sinners and freely give to others what they have freely received.
