David Vows to Find a Place for the LORDby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 132:1

LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions:

The song containing the plea for the Lord to remember David and all his troubles was likely composed by Solomon after the temple was built and may have been sung at its dedication. It belongs to the Psalms of Ascent sung by pilgrims as they approached Jerusalem, and those inspired songs stirred spiritual truth and awakened the true spirit of worship as the holy city and its temple came into view. It is one of the Psalms of Degrees chanted on the fifteen steps leading up to the temple's inner court.

The plea recalls David's afflictions and his vow to find a dwelling place for the God of Jacob, for he was moved by the condition of God's house and desired to provide a sanctuary for the ark. It recalls his sleepless distress over the ark's separation from Jerusalem and his determination to bring it into the city. Together with Psalms 22 and 72, the psalm sets out promises of an eternal reign of righteousness that could not have been fulfilled in fullness without the Lord's resurrection.
