Ye that stand in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God,
Those who stand and serve in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of God, are called to praise Him. That call embraces ministers and the whole church gathered there. The call to praise rests on the reasons set out in the verses that follow: the Lord is good, and praise to His name is pleasant. It rests also on His having chosen Jacob and Israel for Himself as His own special treasure, His peculiar treasure, and on His greatness above all gods, greater than all gods.
The praise required is to become the language of hearts responding to God's great goodness and love. It is to be that language both as a people together and as individuals. The choice of Jacob and Israel means God has a chosen people, His church. He holds that church as His own fortress in a sin-stricken and revolted world, where no other authority and no other laws are to be known or acknowledged but His own.
