Psalms 136:14

And made Israel to pass through the midst of it: for his mercy endureth for ever:

The verse remembers the moment when God caused Israel to go through the middle of the Red Sea after its waters were divided. It presents that passage as a mighty act of deliverance by which His people were brought out from Egypt and freed from Pharaoh and his army. That rescue is held up as proof that His mercy continues without end, giving reason for unceasing thanksgiving. The same song of thanks rightly applies to His merciful care and providence shown toward the exiles who returned to their own land.
