A Harp and Psalms Scroll Above JerusalemBible World
137:5Psalms 137:5
If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.
The verse is a pledge of unwavering loyalty to what is cherished, that to forget it is for the right hand to lose its skill. That same pledge belongs to the publishing work, whose interests and prosperity are bound up with life and service, so that to forget them would be for the right hand to forget its skill.
The cunning of the hand and the firmness of the step will soon be lost, and no one knows how soon. Life is but a vapor, with at most a few more years to work, and there is no guarantee of carrying out personal plans to buy and sell and get gain. Therefore cares are to be cast upon the Lord, worldly things must not be allowed to separate from Him, and all that one has and is to be consecrated to His service today without delay, before the account of stewardship is required. Because life is brief and probation may close at any moment, delay in repenting, returning to duty, and seeking the Lord is perilous.
