David Kneels in Praise Toward the Tabernacleby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 138:2

I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

The verse pictures worship bowed toward God's holy temple and praise lifted to His name for lovingkindness and for truth, because He has magnified His word, His truth, above all His name. That praise is wholehearted, thanksgiving and praise flowing from human lips. Those who so praise do not murmur and complain as the wicked do, but trust that God will answer in the day they cry to Him and will strengthen them with strength in the inward soul.

The song to which the verse belongs looks beyond the present worshipers to the time when the kings and rulers of the earth shall hear the words of His mouth and praise Him, singing of His ways and glory. They shall then acknowledge that though He is high He respects and regards the lowly, while the proud He knows and keeps at a distance. Even now this thanksgiving and praise carries encouragement and hope to souls that are weary and discouraged.

The verse means that the Word of the Lord is to be magnified, and with that magnifying there is a work at Battle Creek for God's self-sacrificing ministry to do. It applies to all who are washed white in the blood of the Lamb, cleansed by Christ's atoning blood, when they meet severe trials. They are then to stand firm in trial and honor the One who gave His life to redeem them, keeping genuine conversion and a renewed heart, staying sweet under trial and revealing divine grace. They are to stay converted under trying circumstances, overcoming by the blood of the Lamb, by Christ's sacrifice, and by the word of their testimony, with prayer and watchfulness, showing a living hope and living service and rejoicing in the Lord.
