If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.
God's thoughts are more in number than the sand, beyond all counting, precious and abundant in loving care. Toward the suffering believer those precious thoughts are shown in rich sustaining blessings such as preserved eyesight, good memory, and a clear and active mind to behold the beauty of truth. To be still with Him when awake is to remain with Him upon waking, to wake in His presence in continuing closeness and nearness. The response on waking is to make the first thought and expression of the heart praise and love to God in gratitude for salvation, recognizing that the Saviour counted the soul of value and paid an infinite price with His own life and blood. That thankfulness calls for giving one's life back to cooperate with Him in the saving of the soul, so that He did not die in vain.
