Psalms 144:3

LORD, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him! or the son of man, that thou makest account of him!

The question of what man is before the Lord rests on the fact that man is finite. He is like vanity, and his days are as a shadow that passes away. Yet despite that frailty the Lord takes knowledge of him, and the son of man is such that God makes account of him, noticing him and reckoning with him.

The verse calls for praising the Lord. It rebukes lack of praise. It awakens a realizing sense of God's mercies and unbounded goodness.
