Grandfather Shows His Grandson the Harvestby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 145:15

The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.

All living creatures look to a near and personal God in dependence for their daily needs and sustenance. He satisfies the desire and need of every living thing by giving food and the necessities of life at the proper and right time. His care over all His works is tender in compassion and mercy, full of goodness and love, and benevolent and just toward suffering humanity. He is the generous source of every temporal and spiritual blessing, providing by His power such gifts as vegetation, harvest, sunlight and warmth. That trust in Him as friend removes anxious care about food and clothing, and calls those who receive abundance to acknowledge Him as giver by offerings and to pass His blessings on to meet the needs of the poor.

Personal God Sustains All

The verse shows God to be personal and near, not distant or impersonal. The eyes of all living creatures wait upon Him, looking to Him in dependence for sustenance and for their daily needs. All living things depend on Him for food, and this dependence embraces every creature in creation.

He gives them their food and the necessities of life in due season, meaning at the proper and right time. He opens His hand and satisfies the desire and need of every living thing.

His care in this provision is benevolent and just. It is tender in compassion and mercy over all His works, full of goodness and love toward suffering humanity and extending over the universe. Every creature's dependence is evidence of His loving, tender care.

He is the generous Benefactor of the universe and the source of every temporal and spiritual blessing. By His power and care He gives such gifts as the growth of vegetation, the harvest, and the light and warmth of the sun.

This care is answered in Christ, who though rich left the royal throne and the heavenly courts and became poor so that humanity might become rich through His poverty. His mission was to bring good tidings to the meek, to bind up the brokenhearted, and to proclaim liberty to the captives.

Trust and Share Provision

The verse calls for trust in the Lord as the strong and mighty One upon whom all depend and wait, as friend and not enemy, so that when hopes are not realized there is no complaint but belief that He will aid His children.
Trust in the heavenly Father who feeds the birds and clothes the lilies removes anxious care about food and clothing. Hunger, nakedness, ignorance, and degradation continue because His word is disregarded and warnings against laying up earthly treasure and serving mammon are not obeyed.

Timely spiritual food is given when church members who have faithfully done their part during the week tell their experiences in the Sabbath meeting. Such food brings new life and fresh vigor to all present. It fills testimonies with power as God's people see the great need of working as Christ worked for the conversion of sinners. It leads them with joy to witness to the preciousness of what they have gained in working for others.

Dependence on God is to be acknowledged by recognizing Him as the giver of every blessing through offerings. All living things depend on Him for food which He provides at the proper and right time, with the growth of vegetation, the harvest, and the light and warmth of the sun as gifts of His power and care. Every temporal and spiritual blessing comes from Him in tender mercy over all His works, with open hand satisfying the desire of every living thing, so His people should reveal His benevolence and mercy in word and deed.

The providence that provides sustenance at the proper time is a source of blessings that are to be passed on to others. All living things look to Him for sustenance and He provides the necessities of life for all people. Those who receive abundance are to help meet the needs of the poor.
