While I live will I praise the LORD: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.
While living, praise to the LORD is to continue, and singing praises to God is to continue while having any being, lasting throughout life for as long as one exists. It is a lifelong commitment to praise God in song for as long as life lasts.
This praise is offered with the soul, in song, alongside earnest prayer, with a grateful heart responding to God's love and the salvation revealed in redemption. It is fittingly offered together with all God's people. It is praise in gratitude for God's love and mercy, for strengthening and blessing that renews the body with strength and courage, and for not forsaking those who walk out by faith even when feeble.
God's deliverance of the Hebrews at the sea gives cause for such praise, manifesting His power, humbling their oppressors, and testing and strengthening their faith. God is to be praised while life and being last because the path where He leads is safe even through the desert or the sea, His providences bringing darkness and despair to the unbelieving but light and peace to the trusting soul. Such praise belongs to courageous faith that obeys God's command to move forward when the Christian life is beset by dangers and duty seems hard, with impending ruin ahead and bondage or death behind. It trusts even when the eyes cannot penetrate the darkness and cold waves are about the feet, hoping all things and believing all things, and never deferring obedience until every shadow of uncertainty disappears and no risk of failure remains.
It is sung together by children and parents in joy and thanksgiving when humble houses of worship are built by willing hands and means and schools are provided for children, as the work advances from city to city and churches are established. This lifelong praise glorifies God and joins the praise in which all heaven unites. It is the angels' song to be learned now in order to sing it when joining their shining ranks.
