Psalms 147:5

Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

Great is the Lord, and great is His power, and His understanding is infinite and without any limit. The same declaration stands as the precious teaching of the psalm. Its setting shows the range of that knowledge and power, extending from numbering and naming every star to caring for the earth and its creatures.

His infinite understanding and wisdom mean that He knows all things, including what is hidden and each person's true condition, mind, thoughts, and ways, with every thought open before Him. His wisdom and knowledge are beyond finite human understanding. Therefore people should not presume to interpret or speculate about God.

He knows the ways, the means, and the people through whom His purposes will be carried out. His purposes cannot be thwarted, He cannot err or be perplexed, He will not change what He has spoken, and His goodness and truth are eternal.

His infinite greatness is joined with care for fallen humanity, for He restores fallen people, heals the brokenhearted, and lifts up the meek. He values and takes pleasure in those who fear Him and hope in His mercy. He honors those who walk humbly with Him. The lessons of the psalm are precious and worthy of careful study.
