Psalms 149:6

Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand;

The verse portrays the people of God with exalted praises of God upon their lips while holding a double-edged sword in their grasp. That praise finds expression when believers lift up God with gladness and openness, voicing His honor aloud in worship.

In the fuller setting of verses 6-9, the saints appear as a powerful and awe-inspiring host assembled at the voice of God, yet at that moment they do not execute the judgment that stands written. The carrying out of that work belongs to a later time, after the living saints are transformed and caught up together with the risen saints to receive their reward and enter the city. Then, through the thousand years, they sit with Jesus in judgment, laying the records of the dead alongside the Bible and deciding the portion the wicked shall receive.
